Recruitment Brochure for Montverde Town Manager Repeatedly Misspells Town's Name

A brochure prepared to recruit the next town manager for Montverde, Florida, misspells the town's name as "Mountverde" in several places, raising questions about the review process behind a document meant to represent the town to prospective candidates.

The error appears in the footer of every page, where the document reads "Town Manager | Mountverde, FL." It also shows up in the captions for both figures, including the title of the town's organizational chart, which reads "Figure 2: City of Mountverde, Florida Organizational Chart." Two table headers carry the same mistake, labeling the town's demographics and principal employers as belonging to "Mountverde."

Notably, the name is spelled correctly throughout the body of the brochure, in the town seal, and within the organizational chart graphic itself, which lists "Citizens of Montverde" and the "Montverde Town Council." The brochure even explains the correct origin of the name, noting it comes from the Spanish phrase "Monte Verde," meaning green mountain.

The inconsistency suggests the misspelling slipped through in the document's recurring elements, the footers, captions, and table titles, the kind of repeated template text that a final proofread is meant to catch. Because "Mountverde" is not a recognized word, a standard spell-checker would not flag it.

The brochure lists Colin Baenziger & Associates as the recruiting firm handling the search, with applications directed to [email protected] and questions to Scott Krim and Colin Baenziger.
The recruitment timeline is compressed. Applications are due "ASAP but no later than July 3," with screening running July 4 through August 17, finalists selected August 18, and interviews held August 27 and 28, with a selection to follow shortly after.

The town is offering a salary range of $120,000 to $160,000 for the position. The previous town manager served five years before stepping down.
